When the firm was founded in 1983, each of the members shared a desire to establish a small Washington law firm with a national practice that would focus primarily on complex legal issues faced by hospitals, multihospital systems, physician groups, home health agencies, and the newer, evolving forms of health care delivery. The members also sought to establish a firm that would emphasize, as a first step, problem-solving rather than litigation-oriented strategies on behalf of the firm's clients and one that would render a personal rather than institutional form of service.
While keeping our primary focus on health care, we have gradually expanded our capabilities to include a national education practice, public policy and government relations services, representation of tax-exempt organizations, and representation of clients seeking expertise in other areas of administrative law, including public health and the environment.
Members of the firm are nationally known and have written and lectured extensively on issues within their particular areas of expertise. Their backgrounds include service with the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), in the US Department of Health and Human Services; the former US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare; the Executive Office of the President; the Congress and the General Accounting Office; presidential commissions; the US Attorneys' offices; and in the private practice of law.
