Mary Susan Philp

Principal

Mary Susan Philp has been a principal in the firm since 1986.  She has over 25 years experience in healthcare law, and her practice focuses on the federal and state regulatory requirements applicable to hospitals, home health agencies, physicians, clinical and histocompatibility laboratories, organ procurement organizations, and other health care providers and suppliers. 

Ms. Philp has substantial experience in Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement and has represented providers before the Provider Reimbursement Review Board, intermediary hearing officers, state administrative agencies, and in court. She advises clients regularly concerning the fraud and abuse implications of various practices and business arrangements. She also has considerable expertise in the development and implementation of corporate compliance plans and counsels clients on compliance matters.

Ms. Philp writes and speaks frequently on health care legal issues and is a contributing author for the American Health Lawyers Association's Health Law Practice Guide. She was recently included as a “Leader in Healthcare” in Chambers USA - America's Leading Lawyers for Business (2006 and 2007 editions).  She was also recently named as a Washington, DC Healthcare Super Lawyer (2008 edition).

Ms. Philp is a 1976 summa cum laude graduate of MacMurray College and a 1979 graduate of the Duke University School of Law, where she was a member of the editorial board of the Duke Law Journal.

Ms. Philp is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and in California. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Ms. Philp serves as Chair of the Arlington (Virginia) Commission on Aging and received the 2005 Arlington County Outstanding Volunteer Award for her work on Medicare Part D outreach.
