Barbara Straub Williams

Principal

Barbara Straub Williams is a principal in the firm who began practicing at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville in 1987. She is a 1980 cum laude graduate of Georgetown University where she was a recipient of the George F. Baker scholarship. She is a 1985 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center and served as editor of the Law and Policy in International Business law journal.

Ms. Williams specializes in federal and state regulatory requirements applicable to hospitals, home health agencies, physicians, clinics and other health care providers. Her practice focuses on Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues, both in advising clients on meeting regulatory requirements and representing clients before the Provider Reimbursement Board and intermediary hearing officers. Ms. Williams also has substantial experience in health care litigation in both federal and state courts, including litigation involving challenges to Medicare regulations and policies. Other areas of Ms. Williams's regulatory practice include certificate of need, licensure and Medicare certification.

Ms. Williams has substantial experience in the area of Medicare fraud and abuse and routinely advises clients on issues involving the federal anti-kickback statute, the civil monetary penalties program and the federal False Claims Act. She also has considerable experience in advising clients on the development and implementation of corporate compliance plans.

Ms. Williams also performs transactional work for hospitals, including managed care network development and contracting, as well as drafting and reviewing the broad range of agreements that typically arise in the health care field.

Before starting her practice at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville, Ms. Williams worked for a Washington, DC law firm that specialized in real estate matters, where she also focused on transactional work. She was also involved in several real estate litigation matters.
