CMS Head Don Berwick Resigns; Tavenner Tapped as Replacement
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Donald M. Berwick announced last Wednesday that he will step down December 2. His appointment was set to expire at the end of the year, and Berwick's confirmation had been blocked by Republican opponents in the Senate. The White House named the CMS deputy administrator, Marilyn Tavenner, to serve as acting administrator during the nominating process...More.
Super Committee Fails; Budget Negotiations Continue
Although the "Super Committee" failed to meet the deadline for proposing a plan to cut the deficit by over $1 trillion, the Congressional debate continues on whether or not to let the Bush tax cuts expire, on the amount of 2012 funding for federal programs set to expire December 16, and on potential legislation outlining the earlier deficit reduction plan proposed by the "Gang of Six."
