Industry: Hospitals & Hospital Systems

From local community hospitals to national health systems, from business arrangements to compliance matters, PPSV represents numerous hospitals and hospital systems in virtually every situation requiring legal counsel and advice.  We render services on behalf of not-for-profit, for-profit and religion-based institutions, including:

  • Acute care hospitals
  • Inpatient rehabilitation hospitals
  • Long-term acute care hospitals
  • Psychiatric hospitals
  • Children’s hospitals

With respect to the Medicare and Medicaid programs, PPSV provides advice and representation on a wide range of issues such as reimbursement, coverage, provider surveys and certifications, appeals, managed care contracting, and EMTALA requirements.

Well-known for our sophisticated transactional work, PPSV attorneys handle mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, acquisitions of stock and assets, operating agreements, affiliations and various other types of contractual arrangements.

PPSV has considerable experience in compliance and fraud and abuse.  We conduct internal investigations and audits, perform risk assessments of billing, coding, and documentation practices, and help clients to assure and achieve compliance with all federal and state laws.  If necessary, PPSV attorneys also aggressively defend hospital clients in actions involving false claims allegations, alleged violations of federal and state anti-kickback and self-referral laws, and other fraud or abuse charges.

Since 2002, the firm has served as counsel to a national coalition of several hundred public and private not-for-profit hospitals on a broad range of pharmacy and pharmaceutical pricing matters.  Besides providing legislative and regulatory advocacy services to this hospital group, PPSV has assisted with the day-to-day operations of the coalition, including organizing three conferences each year.

PPSV provides experienced counsel regarding HIPAA compliance, including compliance with deadlines, standards, and all applicable state privacy rules and regulations.

We believe that one of our key roles as advocates of hospitals and hospital systems is to help our clients proactively influence outcomes of legislation, agency directives and guidance from administrative bodies through continual monitoring and analysis and, if necessary, mounting effective responses to unfavorable actions and policy decisions.
